Sorry – this video is no longer available

Kate joined us to share her new hobby, here’s what she says:

Join me for a presentation that will get your creativity into overdrive! This technique that I’m going to demonstrate will turn your photos into painterly creations with absolute, complete control over the entire process. We’re not going to let app algorithms decide how much or how little to change in the image. That is now entirely up to you.

I will be using an app called Procreate to do the painting for this class. I’ll run through the basics of the app so you understand how it works. Feel free to download it to your tablet and learn alongside me. Some of the demonstrations will be pre-recorded in the interest of time but much of it will be live, along with live discussion during the playback portion. This is a fun and relaxing technique that both photographers and traditional painters will enjoy.”

Note, Procreate is for iPads only and is $9.99.

Followup letter from Kate, Nov 8th

Good morning!

Thanks again for being my “test subjects” with a totally new photographic idea and technique. I hope it was well received. Like I said prior to the presentation…it’s not for everybody. It is very time-consuming…but I really enjoy the slow process and dramatic results. After all that work, it’s quite a sense of accomplishment.

Here is a link to the Artists Glove I was using on the iPad. There are dozens in different colors and styles. I just bought the inexpensive ones and they work fine.

This is one of the iPad artists I follow online. She has some of those fancy brushes I showed during the video. I demonstrated some from her Alcohol Ink collection and her Impressionist collection. You can make some of your own really fun textures with these brushes. I have no affiliation with her…just like her stuff. Alaina Jensen

I have added a new E-Book on Long Exposure Photography to my website. It’s a “get to the point” summary of how the technique is done in the field and some advice on processing images.

My online classes have gotten quite a makeover. I’m now producing classes for Skillshare which is an annual membership learning site, as well as Udemy which is a pay-per-class learning site. My most popular “Creativity with Photographic Textures” is available on both platforms. I’m adding more classes every month or so. My next is High Dynamic Range photography and after that, Photoshop Layers.

If anybody would like to walk through that iPad painting process with me in more detail, just reach out for in-person or Zoom tutoring. I’m happy to help out.

It was great to see you all again.

Have a wonderful week. Stay dry on Friday!

Kate
