Kathleen joined us via Zoom to explain her approach to photographing flowers in a painterly manner. Unfortunately, we were asked not to record her session.
However, Kathleen has many videos up on YouTube, so please explore there to see her unique way of creating flower portraits. Here are some examples–
We asked and she responded. Here are the links and discount codes that Kathleen Clemons mentioned, one for Lensbaby and one for her textures collection.

Kathleen Clemons, the “Georgia O’Keefe” of flower photography was a source of inspiration and plenty of practical tips during her two Zoom visits with us.
As promised she has sent links to her webinars on Viveza2 and Color Efex Pro 4, and a list of her favorite iPhone Apps. See below.
Kathleen encouraged experimenting and emphasized that regardless of skill level photography offers opportunities for continued learning, something our club has embraced since the beginning. Have fun checking these out!

Kathleen sees her flower photographs as portraits and she will show you the equipment and methods she uses to create them. Topics include lighting, choosing a subject, focus issues, aperture choices, selecting a background, and how to simplify a subject to truly capture its natural beauty.
Kathleen teaches online classes as well as many location workshops and seminars and is on the instructional staff of the Santa Fe Workshops and Gather Academy. She has also filmed instructional classes for Craftsy, CreativeLive, Lensbaby University and is the author of “All About Textures”.
With a background in education and a passion for both photography and teaching, Kathleen loves to teach others how to improve their photography skills and to see beyond the obvious.
Followed by a Virtual Photo Shoot: Kathleen challenged us to shoot a macro flower image in an artistic fashion, paying attention to
-Light and shadows
-Point of view
-Background and borders
-Aperture choice (How much needs to be in focus to tell the story you want to tell about the subject?)
On October 4, she will review the images of those who have signed up to participate in this assignment. Details on signing up for the virtual photo critique to follow! All are encouraged to try the shoot.
